Symbotic acquires cellumation to expand warehouse sortation technology

Symbotic has acquired Bremen-based cellumation, developer of the modular celluveyor sorting platform. The business will retain its name and leadership while supplying customers and integrating its technology into Symbotic systems.
Symbotic announced its acquisition of cellumation on 13 October. The German company develops the celluveyor, a software-controlled sorting surface built from independently operated, omnidirectional conveyor cells.
Symbotic plans to use the technology in its next generation of inbound and outbound robotic cells. It expects more compact layouts and greater product-handling flexibility; these are anticipated benefits, not independently verified performance improvements from the acquisition.
Cellumation will continue operating under its own name from Bremen, serving existing customers and other integrators. Co-founders Hendrik Thamer and Claudio Uriarte will remain in charge. The announcement does not disclose a transaction price.
