Defra digital waste tracking goes live for permitted sites

Defra’s Report Receipt of Waste service went live on 1 October for permitted waste sites in England. Licensed or permitted sites in England and Wales must digitally report each controlled-waste load they receive; the rules also affect pallet repair and recycling businesses where their sites fall within scope.
Defra says more than 12,000 permitted waste sites in England must now report each received load through its Report Receipt of Waste service. The service records information including the waste carrier and waste classification code. Defra guidance says licensed or permitted sites receiving controlled waste in England and Wales must use the service from 1 October 2026 and submit records within two working days. For pallet repair and recycling operators, the requirement is relevant where a site is licensed or permitted to receive controlled waste.
