DfT data shows UK lorry traffic broadly steady in year to June 2026

Department for Transport provisional estimates show lorry traffic in Great Britain was 16.4 billion vehicle miles in the year to June 2026, little changed from the previous year.
The Department for Transport’s provisional road traffic estimates for July 2025 to June 2026 put lorry traffic at 16.4 billion vehicle miles, 0.5% below the year to June 2025. Total motor-vehicle traffic rose 1.5% to 343.5 billion miles over the same period. The figures measure road traffic, not freight tonnage or pallet movements. DfT says the estimates are provisional and based on data from around 300 automatic traffic counters; annual estimates additionally incorporate roadside counts.
