Port of Tauranga’s Stella Passage expansion faces appeal

Port of Tauranga says tangata whenua parties have appealed the resource consent for its Stella Passage development and filed a judicial review application. The port says it will seek an early court hearing.
Port of Tauranga reported on 2 October that tangata whenua parties had appealed the resource consent for the Stella Passage development, issued on 7 September under New Zealand’s Fast-track Approvals Act, and that it had been notified of a judicial review application. Chief executive Leonard Sampson said the port would seek the earliest possible court hearing and that the project’s urgency was unchanged. The port’s announcement reports an appeal and review application; it does not say the consent has been overturned or the project stopped.
