Guidance updated for professional operators issuing plant passports and ISPM 15 marks

GOV.UK updated its guidance on registering as a professional operator to trade in wood, issue plant passports and apply ISPM 15 marking. Registration and authorisation are the route by which UK wood packaging producers gain the right to heat-treat and mark pallets for export.

UK timber and panel imports stayed below last year through the first half of 2026
Timber Development UK reported that the combined volume of the UK's main timber and panel product imports was 3.9% lower in the first half of 2026 than in the same period of 2025, with solid wood down 4.7% and panel products down 2.5%. A March and April improvement did not hold, with May volumes 8% below a year earlier. Figures are TDUK's own statistics.

The Forestry Commission published a statistics release announcement for the UK-grown timber and trade chapters of Forestry Statistics 2027, the official source for domestic roundwood production, sawmill output and trade volumes that underpin pallet timber supply.
