Government formally amends ports planning policy for England and Milford Haven

The government has formally amended the National Policy Statement for Ports, following parliamentary scrutiny. Its scope covers England and reserved trust ports in Wales, currently Milford Haven.
Maritime minister Keir Mather confirmed the formal amendment in a written statement on 15 October. The revised text was laid before Parliament on 6 July, and the statutory 21-sitting-day period passed without a resolution opposing it.
The Department for Transport says the updated policy supports investment responding to customers, national resilience and environmental considerations. This is a planning-policy milestone, not approval for a particular port development or an announcement of new handling capacity.
