DP World adds quay cranes at London Gateway and Southampton

DP World says four large quay cranes are being added across London Gateway and Southampton, with tandem lifts enabling two 40-foot containers to be handled at once. The investment is intended to increase capacity for larger vessels and growing trade.
DP World announced on 1 October that the first pair of new quay cranes had arrived at London Gateway on 25 September and will serve the new all-electric Berth 5, under construction as part of its £1 billion expansion due to open in 2027. The other pair is scheduled to arrive at Southampton the following week, following two cranes delivered there in June; DP World says all four Southampton cranes this year represent a £60 million investment. The company says the cranes can perform consecutive tandem lifts of two 40-foot containers and serve vessels up to 24,000 TEU. A further two cranes are scheduled for London Gateway in the coming months. These are operator-reported plans and capacity claims.
